We Believe
Core Beliefs of Divine Mercy Academy
At Divine Mercy Academy, we are dedicated to proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ as the foundation of our mission. Rooted in the Catholic Tradition and Sacred Scripture, our purpose is to know, love, and serve God, and form others so that they might joyfully do the same. From our inception, the goal of Divine Mercy Academy has been nothing short of sainthood for our students, their families, and our staff. Every aspect of our school reflects our commitment to fostering a joyful life in Christ through reason, virtue, and faith.
We strive to present Catholic moral teaching with fidelity and clarity, ensuring our mission guides all our endeavors. Our educational model embraces the Catholic Liberal Arts tradition, emphasizing the integration of faith and reason in the pursuit of truth.
Expectations for Students and Staff
As part of our school community, all students and staff participate in our shared Catholic traditions, which include regular Mass, daily prayer, and other liturgical celebrations. While Divine Mercy Academy welcomes families of all faith backgrounds, we require that all members of the community respect the teachings and practices of the Catholic Church. This includes refraining from behavior or expressions that conflict with Catholic moral teachings as outlined in the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC).
The following examples are not a complete list, but represent particularly relevant illustrations of the Catholic moral standards DMA holds to:
The Sanctity of Human Life
We believe all human life is of inestimable value and sacred in all stages, from conception to natural death. Every individual life is worth more to God than the entire material universe. We are commanded by God to protect and defend human life regardless of its condition – pre-born babies, persons with physical or intellectual disabilities, the immigrant, the homeless, the elderly, the sick, the suffering, and the dying. As such, DMA supports building a culture of life. This includes upholding the Church’s “unchangeable” teaching that direct abortion, as well as formal cooperation in abortion, is gravely evil, and that “[t]he inalienable right to life of every innocent human individual” should be “a constitutive element of a civil society and its legislation.” (Ps. 139 13-16, 1 Cor. 6:19; CCC, 2258-2279, 2270-2273).
The Dignity of Marriage
We believe the term “marriage” means the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive, and permanent union. We also believe God intends sexual intimacy to occur only in marriage as a means of expressing the love and fidelity of husband and wife and participating in God’s gift of procreation. Living life according to God’s plan for marriage leads us closer to his love, while misusing our sexuality through unchastity (e.g. pornography, fornication, homosexual behavior, cohabitation, etc.) hurts us and leads us away from God. (Gen. 2:18-25, Eph. 5:31-33, CCC 2337-2365)
Male and Female He Created Them
We believe God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary sexes together reflect the mystery of God. Rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of natural law, biological anatomy, and God’s plan for the human person made in His image. (Gen. 1:26-27, Matt. 19:4-6, CCC 2333-2334)
Our commitment to upholding the beauty and truth of the Catholic faith extends beyond religious instruction and forms the heart of our school culture. Through this, we aim to cultivate an environment where students can grow in wisdom, virtue, and grace.
